Portraits, especially those of children are always part of a larger picture. The look of the face
is important as an element to a more compelling expression. Without making the composition
complex portraits take on the "must haves" criteria just as other aspects of my photography.
The preoccupied expression of the face merges where light, color, gesture and space mingle. As
do his hands, shirt and foreground.
I'm not so much of the school that a lingering question gives life to a portrait in so much as I strive
for all the above playing off one another.
What was he thinking? Were his thoughts in English, Amharic or Sedaman? We may never know. Love the picture.
