Edward Hopper vs Photography

The influence of Edward Hopper, the painter on photography and photographers has been going on for
more than 40 years.  Not as imitator but just as mysteriously.  Perhaps it is a shared culture and history.
He was known as the painter of loneliness with a sense of desolation, the gothic side of America.
Much of the works by photographer Robert Frank echo these qualities.  The color works of Stephen
Shore photographer also has influence of urban solitude and rural abandonment.

This image is no exception either. Together with the by gone era of the towering coal silos, the empty gray sky and street it is hard to dismiss the Hopper legacy. He who never photographed.
